It’s that magical time of year again, and this December, Montecasino’s Teatro will be alive with festive cheer as Cape Ballet Africa presents its enchanting new production of The Nutcracker. This timeless classic promises to whisk audiences away into a world of wonder, music, and breathtaking dance.
A Tale of Magic, Music, and Holiday Joy
Follow young Clara as she receives a magical nutcracker doll for Christmas, setting off on a whimsical journey through lands of snow, sweets, and dreams. With dazzling choreography, Tchaikovsky’s beloved score, and spellbinding performances, The Nutcracker at Montecasino is the perfect way to celebrate the season.
Expect snowflakes, toy soldiers, and the unforgettable “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy”, all brought to life by a cast of top South African dancers and international guest artists.
Meet Clara – Six Stars, One Dream
Adding to the excitement, The Nutcracker at Montecasino will feature six talented young performers taking turns in the role of Clara. Three hail from Johannesburg and three from Cape Town.
From Johannesburg, Scarlett Haslam, Maseroka Mothiba, and Chiara Szabo will share the stage with Cape Town’s Gia Lipschitz, Erin Padoau, and Victoria Toweel. Each young dancer brings her own sparkle and interpretation to the role, making every performance of The Nutcracker uniquely magical.
“It’s such a dream role,” says Maseroka, who recently earned a scholarship to the American Academy of Ballet in New York. “Clara’s story is full of imagination and adventure, it’s a joy to dance!”
International Stars Join the Magic
The production also features world-class guest artists Denis Cherevychko from Ukraine and Arthur Wille from Brazil, both making their African debut. Together with Cape Ballet Africa’s talented company of 50 dancers, they bring this festive favourite to life in a spectacular celebration of music and movement.
