Janice Honeyman brings Pinocchio to life in her 38th Pantomime at Joburg Theatre

31 October – 24 December 2025
Mandela Stage, Joburg Theatre

It would not be the festive season in Johannesburg without a Janice Honeyman pantomime, and this year she is back with her 38th annual show – a magical new production of Pinocchio. The holiday favourite runs from 31 October to 24 December 2025 on the iconic Mandela Stage at Joburg Theatre.

This year’s production promises all the sparkle, humour and heart that audiences have come to love over the decades. Expect a playful retelling of the classic tale of the wooden puppet who dreams of becoming a real boy, packed with big laughs, touching moments and plenty of surprises along the way.

Joburg Theatre CEO Xoliswa Ngema says,
“This year’s pantomime carries on our tradition of joyful, world-class storytelling for families. With Janice Honeyman leading the way, audiences can expect a visual feast and a beautiful message at its core.”

Janice Honeyman shares her personal connection to the story:
“Pinocchio was the first live children’s show I ever saw at age six, and it captivated me. All these years later, the story still inspires me with its fun, its charm, and the rich lessons it carries.”

This year’s production blends live music, dance, circus elements, puppetry, colourful costumes and larger-than-life characters. Expect techno-trains, pirate ships, puppet theatre, sing-alongs, dazzling sets and all the mischief, mayhem and magic you would hope for in a Honeyman show.

Behind the scenes is a dream creative team, including acclaimed musical director Dale Ray, award-winning designers Mariska Meyer, Andrew Timm and Enos Ramoroko, and choreographer Khaya Ndlovu.

The cast includes Katlego Nche as Pinocchio, Bongi Archi as Geppetto, Gina Shmukler as the Blue Fairy, and Sandi Dlangalala as Jiminy Cricket. Tiaan Rautenbach steps into the role of the wonderfully dramatic Dame Arletti Spaghetti, with an outstanding line-up of supporting performers bringing the story’s villains, friends and fantastical characters to life.

Families can look forward to a festive adventure filled with laughter, music, and a reminder that honesty, courage and kindness never go out of style.
